Profile
The residents of Minneapolis overwhelmingly supported the
construction of a new downtown library via a public
referendum in 2000. World–renowned architect Cesar Pelli
was selected to design the new library. Construction began in
2002 and the doors to the beautiful new library were opened
in May, 2006, to critical and public acclaim. Hoffman
Communications was proud to be a working sponsor of the
Grand Opening ceremonies.
Project Challenge
The challenge was deciding how to throw a huge party in a
space that was designed for non–party purposes. The video
production, sound, and lighting systems needed to
appropriately complement the space, as well as match the
heightened expectation surrounding the opening.
Solution
Hoffman created a video which played at various venues
within the new library during the Grand Opening ceremonies.
The hour–long video was comprised of area leaders and
celebrities reading selections from their favorite books or
poems. The video was projected throughout the evening on a
10.5’ X 14’ screen within the Library Commons area, as well
as within the Pohlad Auditorium. Hoffman also supplied
dynamic lighting and projection systems which added to the
fun of the evening, as well as spotlights which focused upon
the speakers and entertainment. Audio systems were added
and employed within the Library Commons, as well as on the
outdoor staging for local bands’ performances throughout the
Public Opening day.
